I'm so glad I found this article. Well said, and so(!) very important for real-life development strategizing. Something I'll be recommending for DDs, EDs, and Board members to read! Thanks, Kate.

As a provider for telefundraising, this is a very refreshing article. I spend a great deal of time explaining you can't ask for a "one-size fits all" gift and the strategy should be to ask for an amount the prospective donor is able to give rather than what you want them to give. Too many NPOs have been focused on the "uber-gifts" that look great in the news and reduce the cost to raise a dollar, but in the end without the participation of a large consituency, are now falling victim to chasing dollars in a down economy. Kudos for telling it like it is!

A painter known in the DC art circles says that he recognizes another artist's great painting by feeling he wishes he'd painted it. I feel that way about this post.
