History
Established in 1980 as part of The Minneapolis Foundation, Nonprofits Assistance Fund was incorporated as an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) in 1998. In 2000, Nonprofits Assistance Fund created a financial center for nonprofits in the Philips Eco Enterprise Center, with the goal of providing extensive training as well as loan programs. Nonprofits Assistance Fund was certified as a Community Development Financial Institution by the US Department of the Treasury CDFI Fund in 2001. In 2005 Nonprofits Assistance Fund changed its name from Community Loan Technologies. Over the years the organization has housed several loan funds, including the Minnesota Nonprofits Assistance Fund® (MNAF), the Minnesota Primary Care Loan Fund, and the Working Capital Fund. The activities and capital base of these funds has grown substantially thanks to the support of The Minneapolis Foundation, the Calvert Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Otto Bremer Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the US Bancorp Community Development Corporation, Wells Fargo Community Development Corporation, and others.
Over its 28 year history, Nonprofits Assistance Fund has provided more than $61 million in loans to 1,700 nonprofits and provided more than 700 training workshops.
